A strong wish that the baby is completely healthy when it comes to the world is a completely normal expectation. But when we are facing with the impossibility of the child to live “to the fullest”, this important expectation of ours remains unfulfilled. Just then we become powerless.
This is our brave fighter Iris, a six year old angel with precious eyes who has only one wish. TO WALK…
Iris Lioness Dragon, a nickname that she got after she didn’t give up on fighting for her life. She is a brave girl that is battling with cerebral paralysis, a disease that was limiting her movement and her muscle control and because of which she could not walk. A disease that has left many consequences on the girl and has set up some every day obstacles that Iris had to overcome. To get dressed alone, to crouch, to sit down-Iris could just fantasies about. A usual walk, going out to the park has represented a great problem for her mum. But, she didn’t lose HOPE.
When a child suffers from cerebral paralysis, it demands care 24 hours a day. That way a brave mum Naida became her arms and legs. She puts Iris’s clothes on, feeds her, exercises with her and does all the other life needs for her, every day. Nevertheless, she never came to terms with the fact that her little girl doesn’t have her only wish fulfilled, and her strength and wish to give her a childhood she deserves overcame all the obstacles! She took things in her own hands, started an action by the name: One cup, one step-one step, one smile! She made personalized hand-made gifts in order to try to collect money for the treatment of her daughter. Like every mother, she wanted to give her child a chance for a better life.
Mum Naida came to Glavić Polyclinic with TRUST.
Little fighter Iris came for the first time in Glavić Polyclinic three months ago in her mum’s company, who was pushing her in the wheelchair. Back then Iris couldn’t walk independently, not even when holding her mum’s hand. But thanks to her persistent work and effort together with the help of ROBOTICS at Glavić Polyclinic, Iris showed some visible improvements in movement during the first week of her therapy. Moreover, in the sixth week of the neurorehabilitation Iris made her first independent humble steps. LOKOMAT, the world’s leading robotic medical device, has helped a lot to Iris in her every day therapies.
Through the rehabilitation in Glavić Polyclinic, that is at the moment situated in two locations, in Dubrovnik and in Zagreb, Iris has been preparing at the same time for school that is waiting for her in fall. Thanks to robotic devices for arm rehabilitation and occupational therapy, Iris has learned to write and draw.
Till the end of a cycle that has lasted for 12 weeks, she became much more stable, firmer in trunk, confident. Iris can already walk independently with the help of an neurological cane, but also make a few independent steps!
PERSISTANT girl Iris has made her first independent STEPS with the help of robotic devices!
Iris is a special girl. She is fighting a big battle, and she is only six years old! She has never lost hope and all in order to be able to walk independently one day. Her therapies last 6 days a week for 6-8 hour on more than 10 robotic devices for the rehabilitation of the whole body with the following conventional and occupational therapy. Due to this, Glavić Polyclinic has become her new home.
Thanks to the professional knowledge and sophisticated robotic devices, Iris makes progress every day and achieves steps that provide her to do the same activities as her peers.
GLARTH method was created with the help of all doctors and physiotherapists of Glavić Polyclinic. All of them contributed with their longtime professional knowledge and experience gained as well through different additional specializations achieved during courses and seminars. Of course robotics played a crucial role in the creation of the GLARTH method, as considered the most innovative approach when treating patients. Nevertheless, one cannot also forget a strong will and passion of Glavić Polyclinic to move boundaries of possible together with it’s patients. Why robotics? When, for example, only classical physical therapy is being made and the same gets interrupted, the organism starts to neglect itself and the extremity soon comes back to the beginning of the problem. With robotic neurorehabilitation , because of the neuroplasticity of the brain there is no coming back, but the functions that came back stays that way. This happens due to not working on the periphery, on the extremity, but rather on the brain. Besides the cerebral paralysis, robotic rehabilitation can help patients with motor damages that happened as a consequence after: stroke, multiple sclerosis, damage of the spinal cord, operation and operative procedures, neoplasm of the central nervous system, traumatic injuries of the brain, neuropathy, paraplegia, muscle atrophy, hemiplegia, Parkinson’s disease.
Thanks to GLARTH method, Iris is now like her peers, so independent that she can play with other children, swim, enjoy the summer and her careless childhood…
Iris now enjoys in her FREEDOM.
