What muscle atrophy means

Muscle atrophy means a loss or thinning of muscle tissue, often caused by inactivity, injury, illness, aging, or nerve-related problems.

What muscular dystrophy means

Muscular dystrophy refers to a group of genetic conditions that gradually weaken muscles and reduce muscle mass over time.

Why the difference matters for rehabilitation

The cause of muscle weakness changes the rehabilitation approach. Atrophy may focus on rebuilding strength and movement, while muscular dystrophy requires long-term support, careful progression, and function preservation.
