Filip Miksic embodies a new generation of clinicians: the ones who trust data as much as the remarkable force of human will

During a month that highlights men’s health, meet Filip Miksic, head therapist at Glavic Clinic. He thinks like a scientist and every day pushes the boundaries of neurorehabilitation. His Movember look isn’t a costume, it’s a statement: strength comes not from rigidity, but from self-awareness, consistency, and the kind of drive that energizes entire teams.

Filip Miksic is one of GC’s key experts. He’s been in neurorehabilitation for nearly twenty years. Even as a physiotherapy student, he was captivated by the field’s complexity and by the freedom and individuality it allows. He began his career working with cerebral palsy organizations and neurological hospital units, but everything changed eight years ago when he joined Glavic Clinic and encountered robotic rehabilitation.

Glavic Clinic was already a pioneer when I arrived, and it still is. Joining the team pushed me to think far beyond everything I knew. Robotic neurorehabilitation opened a whole new world of exploration for me.

Robotics meets human intuition

In an era when medicine leans heavily on technology, Filip reminds us that intuition can’t be replaced by an algorithm..

Robotics takes neurorehabilitation to the next level. But no algorithm can replace a human. I work closely with clinicians and instructors, constantly brainstorming how to improve devices, boost efficiency, and shift mindsets. It’s evolution for both the technology and for us.

His work shows not just what robotics can do, but how far you can go when you refuse to settle. Filip doesn’t simply follow protocols, he believes neurorehabilitation is more than biomechanics, it’s the architecture of hope. A process that demands creativity, reflection, and empathy.

Like an architect, you build synergy between the patient, yourself and the robot. You have to notice every detail and assemble it into a system that works. Neurorehabilitation is complex, but it’s also beautiful. There’s freedom in it. And yes, there’s artistry and intuition as well.

Technology is the tool, creativity is the difference

Even after treating over 2,000 patients, Filip still marvels at what’s possible.

This job demands creativity. You can’t just coast through it. That’s what drives me. Every patient is a universe, and they push you to think out of the box. You might see the same diagnosis, but the emotional, psychological, and social context is always different. Sometimes an old approach won’t work. You have to throw everything out, stay open to new options, new hypotheses, new perspectives. And when it all comes together, that’s when you witness real change. All you can say is: wow.

Emotional honesty as a professional skill

Beneath his calm tone and precise movements lies real emotional strength. Asked how emotionally demanding the work is, he doesn’t hesitate:

It’s intense and that’s a good thing. You can’t hide behind a shield. You need to be honest, open and realistic. And you have to hold onto hope. When patients see that you’re not selling them a story, but giving them the truth, they trust you and go all the way with you. You move through the trenches together. You burn together. That’s where the small miracles happen.

For Filip, hope isn’t just a word, it’s the essence of the profession.

Patients often don’t realize what they’re capable of. Our job is to lift them up and show them. Neurorehabilitation isn’t just a medical procedure, it’s an interdisciplinary process that includes family, environment, motivation and trust. Every relationship must be real. That’s the only way therapy makes sense.

When life changes and hope must be rebuilt

What advice does he give to people unfamiliar with robotic neurorehabilitation when they suddenly need it – for themselves or a loved one?

When something like that happens, life changes completely for the person and everyone around them. There are stages and degrees of severity. The more freedom someone loses, the more hope can fade. The road is long, but hope is always there. It’s not just about motor skills, it’s about rebuilding life. My role is to show that life is still worth living.

Masculinity as a mindset

Filip’s signature look: stylish, with a touch of old-school charm and a subtle Movember edge is simply an extension of who he is.

That’s me. At work and outside of it. Even as a kid, skating and listening to punk. I only do what makes sense to me and what brings me joy.

His personal philosophy flows seamlessly into his professional world: he continually seeks ways to turn therapy into a craft, merging technology with warmth, precision with humanity.
